We live in a densely populated part of the country, yet it is possible to get some peaceful off-road biking - mainly due to waterways. There's a great route through Syon Park from Brentford High Street via an alleyway opposite Majestic Wine. Along the river Thames past the London Apprentice and through Old Isleworth. On Richmond Road hang a left down Railshead Road and follow Thames. Cross via the Victorian flood defence system carry on past Richmond. Cross road and go up Nightingale Lane, right into Richmond Park, do any route you like towards Kingston Gate, come out, make your way towards Thames, over Kingston Bridge, immediate left into Home Park, round that leaving at Hampton Court end. Cross road round Bushy Park, leave by Teddington Gate, through Teddington and Twickenham. Pick up Thames path down Wharf Lane and back toward Syon. About 20 miles, great early in the morning, often undisturbed in Home Park.
