The Great Grand Union Canal

If you want to escape off-road on a bike in West London then the Grand Union canal is perfect. I usually hop on at Brentford and have gone as far out of town as Rickmansworth. A great days ride and very peaceful. The great thing about the canal is that like a river it is generally fairly quiet along the banks.

Another popular ride is in to Paddington via Perivale. Once you reach Paddington you can sneak across town to Putney and back along Thames path to Brentford. Loads to see and surprisingly quiet.
