What
Shorten a church pew
Why
Because it couldn't fit in our house at current size and we wanted to keep it
How
About 10 years ago we brought an old church pew from a reclamation yard in Walton on Thames, in was really an old farm, sorry can't remember the name. It cost around £125.00. We used it in our previous house in the dining room. In our current place sadly it didn't have an obvious home. Until one day I entertained the thought of shortening it and having it as a welcome shoe seat in our hall.
It took a while and the support of my dad to actually cut about a third off the the pew, but with a little care it did still fit into the form that remained in the pew end and hey presto a great welcome seat and a use for the pew. I sometimes look at it and wonder whether an angel might take rest whilst guarding our front door.
See other posts for what happened to the remains of the one third pew.
